Chronology of cameras Brichaut

This camera was also known as "L'Impériale" and was presented to the SFP (Société Française de Photographie) in 1892.

It is of very fine construction, but the blackened wood has become very brittle, and handling is very delicate. This type of camera often lack rigidity, but here, with the focusing system, it is truly prohibitive.

In addition to the two small racks, the cheeks have two grooves to position the optical block plate for close-up focusing, which descends to approximately one meter.

Three rings allow it to be hung either vertically or horizontally, which was likely intended to facilitate its use in mountain settings.

The lens is signed by A. Brichaut and features an integrated rotary shutter with a disc carrying five holes as apertures. A small latch is provided to prevent the lens from unscrewing, but the mount has not been notched.
